Game Changer Chocolate Frosting






Okay, now that that rant is over, I want to thank you all for your amazing comments on my last few posts! Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you. Same goes for my blog reading recently. As I said above, I just haven’t had the time.

Today my aunt helped me move all of my big furniture into my dorm room (mini fridge, microwave, chair, computer/phone setup for my internship, table). I would have moved everything today on campus but I also had an appointment with my GAPS practitioner so I couldn’t stay.

This Saturday I’ll probably finish moving up with the help of my parents (and maybe my brother depending on his mood 😉 ).

Would you believe that I already have things to do before school starts? Like non-moving in things. More specifically speaking, homework-esque things. Ugh.

But for now I am living in blissful denial until Sunday when I will tackle all of that.

Let’s focus on glorious food for now, okay?


As I mentioned on Wednesday this past Sunday was my dad’s birthday so I made him a cake. Yellow layers with chocolate frosting.

The cake part turned out pretty tasty but not exactly sharing-material.


The frosting however was a real winner.

Game Changer Chocolate Frosting

Grain/Gluten/Wheat-Free, Vegan, Nut-Free, Paleo/GAPS-Friendly

Makes about 2 cups of frosting


  • 1 ripe avocado, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1/2 cup carob powder (or cocoa powder but it will not be as sweet)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • dash of sea salt and splash of vanilla (optional but recommended)


  1. Add all ingredients to a food processor or blend and mix well.
  2. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. If making a layer cake add the frosting in between the layers and freeze for a few hours. Then frost the rest of the cake with the remaining chilled frosting.



Questions for you:

How do you people click that “Mark all as read” button on Bloglovin? I just feel SO guilty! 😦

Is chocolate and avocado even a surprising combo anymore? Answer: Whenever I see chocolate + “surprise ingredient” I immediately guess avocado.

Feel free to rant about not having any time either! I’m all ears.

  1. Girl I feel you! I actually just started a full time job in a industry I don’t know well (which is a rant in itself) and that is just a little stressful with school looming over me!
    I usually assume people add avocado now too if they have a secret ingredient with chocolate but I actually have never tried it!
    Hope you get settled in soon and good luck with school!

  2. That frosting looks absolutely delicious! I’ll have to make some next time I bake some brownies–it would be the perfect topping for them. You’re right about chocolate and avocado not really being a surprising combination anymore, at least not for adventurous foodies and bloggers. I saw a recipe on Oh She Glows for a chocolate chip cookie dough dip using pureed potatoes–now THAT is a unique combination! Good luck with starting college again; I hope it is a fantastic semester!

  3. I can’t believe you’re officially back at school. It makes me feel like summer is ending too soon.
    I said it before, and I’ll say it again, I love layer cakes because all that frosting. That’s my sweet tooth kicking in. You do know the trick for frosting cakes yes? The one where you keep a very warm glass of water handy and you dip your knife in the warm water first, then the frosting, spread and repeat. Works like a charm.

  5. The avocado and coconut oil must make that frosting super rich and yummy!! Love how this frosting is actually pretty healthy. Is there anything you can’t make both healthy and yummy?! Nope, I don’t think there is. 😉 And I totally agree that the chocolate/avocado combo is super common nowadays. At least it’s a good one! 🙂

  9. I made this tonight so I can have some on hand for a batch of these zucchini paleo brownies that will go in the oven tomorrow.
    So, I forgot the coconut oil (only have coconut butter on hand anyway) and used a few dates to sweeten it and make it vegan and YOWZERS! Chocolatey and smooth and amazing!! This recipe is genius! No one will believe it when they taste it and I am in love!!!

      Glad you liked it and thanks for letting me know what substitutions you made. I love using dates to sweeten things but haven’t done that in awhile because they don’t always get smooth enough. I hope the brownies turned out great as well.
