Thinking Out Loud #2

Happy Thursday!

1. I know I said that I probably wouldn’t be doing Thinking Out Loud Thursdays very often, but I liked it so much last week that I couldn’t help participating again this week!

2. Two exams down. Three more to go. Tomorrow morning I have Business Communications at 8:30am and then Astronomy right afterwards at 10:45am. I already have a nap planned for the afternoon somewhere in the neighborhood of 2:00pm.

3. While I am really looking forward to Christmas Break, I don’t like all the work that comes before it. I have to defrost my fridge and mini freezer before Friday. Also we have to do a major cleaning of the common area in our dorm. Fun.

4. Even though it’s not Sunday, Arman’s Spill It Sunday link-up is still open so I figured that I’d jump on the chance to join in:

What is your favorite genre of film?

The real question should be- why do I have to pick just ONE? Action, Sci-Fi, Romantic Comedy, Musical, Adventure, Fantasy, Superhero… I think this would be better phrased as what kind of genres I DON’T like. Easy. Horror and Gross rated R comedies.

What is your favorite ever movie?

Boy Arman, are you full of tough questions this week! I would have to go with Harry Potter. And yes I know that there is more than one film in the HP series, and no, I am not going to pick which one I like best.

What movie do you think deserves to have never been made?

You all know my professed hatred for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and that was the first movie that popped into my mind when reading this question.

However, there is another movie with which I’m not even sure how it was conceived let alone produced. Bubba Ho-Tep.

Just read the description and you’ll know where I’m coming from.

Mud Creek, Texas, is about to get all shook up. When mysterious deaths plague the Shady Rest retirement home, it’s up to an aging, cantankerous “Elvis” (Bruce Campbell) and a decrepitand black”JFK” (Ossie Davis) to defeat a 3,000-year-old-Egyptian mummy with a penchant for sucking human souls! Can the King show the world that he can still take care of business?

Here is a trailer in case you need more convincing. I’m sorry, maybe it’s just me and it’s a fantastic movie. For some reason I don’t think so though…

Wait! Hold up. I just thought of an even worse movie. Jack Black’s Bernie. We literally could not finish it and just skipped to the end so we knew what happened.

What movie should be considered a legal sleeping pill?

The Avengers. Before you all protest, I will acknowledge that the second time I saw the movie it was slightly better, but the plot line was just not good. I fell asleep twice during the movie.

If you made a movie, what would it be about?

I really want to see a new spy series. Jason Bourne, Mission Impossible and James Bond are so good but they all feature older males. It’s time for a new female spy series!

A movie which you love but you’d never admit…

I know that as a superhero fan I am supposed to hate the ones that deviate from the originals,  but I just love Batman and Robin with George Clooney.

5. Somehow I have watched six and counting episodes of Glee tonight. I saw one of the auditions on Youtube and got the sudden urge to rewatch the first season. I just love Rachel and Finn.

6. Ending on an even number today, I am so happy with all of the contributions so far with 12 Days of Allergy-Free Christmas Recipes! If you haven’t been keeping up, make sure to check out this page (also listed on my menu above) with links to all of the posts so far. We actually have all but one day filled, so if anyone is interested, let me know. And keep up the great work everyone!

Questions for you:

  • What are your movie favorites?
  • Are there any movies that you love but everyone else hates?
  • What are you thinking about on this beautiful (cold) Thursday?

  1. Goodluck with the rest of your exams I hope they go well!

I did a big brain dump of thoughts on my latest post too 😉

My favourite movie is definitely Father of the Bride but I loved Hunger Games too. For me though Steve Martin in that movie is great!

  2. Mm my favorite movies are comedies or fantasy series usually, although I have to admit, I don’t like the new hobbit films very much (please don’t hate me spoons…). The hobbit was my least favorite story from anything tolkien wrote, and I don’t really see a reason for why it’s being made into three movies (all of which I will/have seen at home when they come out on dvd…tolkien fan in me can’t not 😛 ). And i am thinking that i can’t wait for it to warm up a bit this weekend…so freaking cold these days and I’m tired of it!

  3. Harry Potter is brilliant, isn’t it? I was having coffee with three other girls and honestly ALL of them said they hadn’t seen the films. I said “but you’ve read the books right?” NOPE. And the same for the LOTRs. I mean SERIOUSLY??? Do they live in a cave? I said I could no longer be friends with them obviously. Haha 😉
I’m thinking I have a few hours left before I’m off for Christmas!!! Yay!

  4. 2 PM is the perfect napping time, if you ask me. That’s always the point where I start to crash pretty hard, and a 15-20 minute nap does wonders to put me back on my feet. Good luck with your exams, though! I definitely don’t miss writing finals, but I did love that awesome feeling you get after finishing your last one… it always worked wonders in putting me in the Christmas spirit.

Movie favourites? Most of them are ones that I loved as a child. The Last Unicorn. Land Before Time. Anything Disney… But if I had to throw a more grown-up one in there, it’d definitely be Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I probably quote that movie at least once a day.

  5. Good luck with your final exams–I know you will ace them!!:) I enjoyed the Harry Potter movies, but the books were about 100 times better, in my opinion. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is actually one of my favorite childhood movies! I can understand why you might not enjoy it, though–it is a rather strange movie in some ways. Especially the child catcher who tries to lure out the kids with his lollipops…The king and queen were also odd characters, I suppose; I don’t remember everything since it’s been a while since I watched it.

  6. I think the entire Harry Potter series are some of my favorites too. I guess if I had to pick a very favorite of them all I would pick Prisoner of Azkaban! I LOVE SIRIUS BLACK! Also, I’m a fan of the Batman movie too. I’m not sure why because it is so cheesy but I just love it.

  7. I’m so glad that I know someone else who think Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the creepiest movie out there! 🙂 And your idea for a female spy film, genius!
Obviously I loved reading about your favorite/least favorite films 🙂

  8. When I watched Avengers for the first time, throughout the whole movie my roommates had to explain what was going on. I’ve only watched Captain America, so I didn’t really know who the other people were or what they were trying to do.

Btw, I’m just wondering, why don’t you like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?

  9. Gasp. Madison I liked the Avengers movie. I think you may have just broken my heart. We can no longer be soul mates, I’m afraid. Also, I’ve never heard of most of the worst movies you mentioned. I guess that’s a good sign though, considering the category.

  10. I’m so glad to have the chance to read your blog again! You must be done with your exams by now so YAY!! I LOVE the Harry Potter movies too! What can I say, I’m totally a Harry Potter nerd. 😉 Though I also love SeaBiscuit! Have a fabulous break girlie!
