The One Where Madison Rambles and Updates You on Life

Happy Friday everyone! I hope if you are experiencing cold weather right now you are doing your best to stay warm and are toughing through it. And if you are currently experiencing warm weather… eh, I don’t have anything nice to say to you. Except give us back the sun!! πŸ˜‰

Today is going to be a rather short post since I have a surprise for you.

I made a vlog!

After doing a Blogilates workout on my TV I was inspired to make my own video and give you a little update on what has been going on with me stomach-wise. I swear that I am not hyped up on anything in this post, despite what my wandering eyes and random tangents may lead you to believe…

A few thoughts about the video:

  • Sorry again for the horrible lighting and earthquake-like shaking that resulted from me holding the camera by hand for 15 minutes straight.
  • Oh ya, and sorry for the 15 minute length too. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- with strangers I’m a closed book, but if you can get me talking I’ll never stop!
  • The Blogilates workout that I did today was this one. And the one I did yesterday was a bit longer as a Whole Body Workout. I highly recommend either, and despite their fun titles, those are some serious workouts!
  • Yes, I was still in my pajamas when I recorded the video. Well, I actually took a shower and changed back into them to do the exercise video, so that’s a little better, right?
  • I realized why it was so dark in my living room AFTER I was finished recording– my mom closes the drapes at night to help with insulation and the temperature inside, and we had yet to open them for the day. *Head smack*
  • Of course I will let you know what I find out with the health tests with my new doctor.
  • These are the PaleOMG pancakes that I was talking about. I’ll share more about my adjustments in a future post.
  • While I didn’t take any medicine for my fever, I want to assure you that if my fever had gone any higher or hadn’t broke that day, I would have definitely taken some medicine to bring it down. Test or not, I’m not willing to risk my health for something like that.
  • I am feeling much better but still need a little recovery time. Hopefully by Monday when I return to school I’ll be back to normal.
  • Seriously, I AM excited to go back to school. Call me strange if you must πŸ˜‰
  • Obviously I am linking up this post to Amanda’s Thinking Out Loud because I literally thought out loud. Ha.

Thinking-Out-Loud (1)

Now, once again, happy Friday! I hope you all have a marvelous (warm) weekend and I’ll talk to you soon.

Questions for you:

  • Have you ever made a vlog?
  • Do you prefer video or word posts?
  • Has the cold spell passed where you live?
  • What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. this has to be my favorite post of yours yet. I mean I love rambles and especially when my favorite bloggers do them because I feel like I am in their living room with them chatting. ok that sounded creepy… but really. I will say and I meant to say this earlier, I have been trying a ton of your recipes lately because I have been trying to stick more towards whole 30 eating/paleo eating because i noticed a huge difference. you seriously have the best recipes around

    • Favorite bloggers? πŸ™‚ How did I become so lucky to meet you Alex?!

You should definitely feel like you are just chatting me up in my living room.. especially because we WERE in my living room. Lol. And that doesn’t sound creepy at all, I know exactly what you mean.

I’m super happy to hear that you have been trying some of my recipes! Which ones have you liked/disliked? I only have my family to go by with how a recipe tastes since I can’t try them myself. I know that at first you were hesitant to try the Whole30/Paleo eating, but I am so glad that you made that plunge and that it’s helping you. Whatever works, right? πŸ˜€

  2. Hehe love this post. It’s like having a chat with you! I love how relaxed you are. I love vlogs as you really get to see the blogger behind the blog πŸ™‚ I might do a vlog in the future (distant future) but I think I’d be nervous! I have such a posh stupid British accent hehe.
Sorry about all your food issues :-S such a nightmare isn’t it? 😦

    • I’m usually much more relaxed and talkative in one-on-one conversations but in front of a lot of people? No thank you! Plus, I think it helped that when I was recording this I had no actual intentions of posting it. πŸ˜‰

I would love to hear you do a vlog in the (very near) future. πŸ™‚ It’s so interesting to me because I feel like I have *zero* accent but I know I must sound strange. And British accents are the best!

Nightmare is definitely spot on. πŸ˜›

  3. πŸ˜† You seriously WERE thinking out loud! Love it, lady! Loved being able to see/hear ya, and it seriously makes me wanna do a vlog of my own… eeeexcept that I’m super camera shy. I’ve actually been meaning to do one forever now, but I just have no idea what I’d talk about.

As for the whole watch vs. read thing, that’s a tough call. I do love vlogs, but depending on where I’m doing my blog reading, sometimes reading is a lot easier than watching.

    • Indeed I was! πŸ˜† I really hope this persuades you to do a vlog as well because I would LOVE to hear from you. (Perhaps on the next addition of Thinking Out Loud? πŸ˜‰ ) I’m sure everyone else would be thrilled to see a video from you too. Maybe you could write out your normal Thursday post and just do a quick video with it. I find that with some of my favorite bloggers when they do this, I can understand them so much better and it makes it so much more personal.

Overall I prefer reading myself because it is just so much more convenient depending on where I am, like you said. But a video every once in awhile is certainly welcome and a nice change-up!

  4. Want to comment now before I forget…didn’t get a chance to watch the vlog yet but i will when the boys are sleeping πŸ˜› I think it’s awesome that you made one girl!! That is something that still freaks me out since I don’t like myself on camera. I’m excited to watch and see what updates you have πŸ™‚ Enjoy your last weekend at home hun!!

  5. Yay, you ended up posting it!!:) I love how natural and relaxed you sounded in your vlog, and how it wasn’t scripted or rehearsed at all–that makes it seem as though we are with you in person, having a chat! Maybe I’ll have to consider doing a vlog at some point…I am so sorry that you’ve been dealing with so many stomach issues, and that you have to eat such a restricted diet due to your allergies and bad reactions to certain foods. It must be especially difficult to avoid eating too much fat, since fat helps fill you up and remain satiated. I truly hope that your new doctor might be able to help you out! It must be frustrating to constantly experiment with different foods and have them give you so much pain and digestive issues. Wow, five business classes is a lot, and I hope you enjoy them. Though I was eligible to take honors courses at my community college, I didn’t take any since they weren’t offered at the campus that was nearest to my house–I would have had to drive 30 or 40 minutes to the main campus, as opposed to 10 minutes to the local campus. That being said, I can completely understand how you might have enjoyed honors courses–they sound fantastic!! I always love having in-depth discussions and developing critical thinking skills. I am sorry you’ve been sick as well, but I am glad that your high fever didn’t last too long. A high temperature can be beneficial up to a certain point anyway, since it is essentially your body’s way of fighting off the pathogens. In fact, I read somewhere that fevers between 100 and 104 degrees can actually be beneficial, and that only a fever above 108 degrees can damage the brain. Anyway, I’ll stop being a science nerd now;) I hope you have a fantastic day!

    • I would obviously watch that vlog if you ever make one πŸ™‚

Fat is one of the hardest things to avoid because it just tastes so good! Especially nut butters, my one true love πŸ˜‰ Haha. Every now and then I’ll try adding them back in to see if anything has changed but no such luck thus far for the past year and a half. Thanks for the wishes with the new doctor. I really hope I can stop posting such horrible updates and finally share something positive and move forward.

So far, although it’s only been three days, all of the classes seem really interesting, although super time consuming and this may just be my hardest semester yet.

I probably wouldn’t have taken them with a 30 or 40 minute drive either. I think I was really lucky with the professors I got as I’ve heard students from other schools. and even from those in the same program, that they didn’t have as positive a reaction.

That’s what I kept in mind as well about the high fever. I know my mom was freaking out inside about it, but it only lasted a day and I’ve always heard that it’s better to let it come down naturally if possible. I’m glad to know that you’ve heard something similar! I never knew that about the 108 though. If my fever went above 104 that day or hadn’t gone down I agreed that I would take medicine and go see a doctor, but thankfully it didn’t come to that.

  6. I’m a big fan of blogilates workouts as well! Wow, I’m so impressed with vloggers, I just don’t feel to comfortable in front of a camera.

I really hope you’re feeling better soon. πŸ™‚ Can’t believe you’re excited to go back to school, I’m just relieved to be starting winter break. πŸ˜›

    Have an amazing weekend Madison!

    • I need to do a Blogilates workout sometime tomorrow! I took off the past few days because I didn’t want to be sore when having to walk miles to and from class all day. Haha.

I saw your IG comment about winter break! Wow, we have such different schedules. I hope you are enjoying it?

Have a great break Shawn! πŸ™‚

  7. You are so down-to-earth πŸ™‚ I really enjoyed your vlog! I need to try some Blogilates videos. I’ve heard great things about them. I hope you have fun at school this week and are able to get back into the swing of things!

    • Thanks Diana; such a welcome compliment to hear from you, as I find you so down to earth as well! This was my first time actually doing a Blogilates video, although I’d watched a few of her things before. If you find a favorite let me know so I can have a go at it too.

  8. Hi! I’ve been visiting your blog for a little while now and am finally getting around to commenting. I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy you and your blog! I deal with food problems as well and am living the paleo lifestyle nowadays. I’ve gotten a lot of great recipe ideas from you! I also loved the Vlog and laughed out loud at you trying to find your dog!! So funny. πŸ™‚ Hope you get some answers soon about your tummy troubles, good luck!

    • Hi Kristi! Thanks for finally commenting. I love hearing that other people enjoy my blog. I’m sorry to hear that you have some food problems too, but paleo really does seem to work for a lot of people and I hope you’re doing better! I definitely feel better without grains and legumes but a lot of the paleo foods still bother me. Thanks for the luck! I’ll take all that I can get πŸ™‚

I’m glad you’ve found some inspiration with my recipes. I’ll have to visit you soon and read up on some of your past posts! (And I’m glad you found my dog hunt funny like everyone else πŸ™‚ ).

  9. Is it weird to say that you sound exactly how I picture you would sound when I read your posts… that might be a little creepy but it’s true! I love how casual and open you are here, and the positive attitude you manage to keep even with all the stomach and testing and doctor craziness going on.

Hoping you’re feeling better now, and that you get to enjoy heading back to school πŸ™‚

  10. Ahhh I loved this post. The vlog was fabulous and when it comes to rambling, you are in good company. We should form a club; we could go on and on for years. πŸ™‚
I’m sorry to hear you’re still having so many troubles with your stomach. I was excited to hear about your blueberry eating ways until you said you were paying the price. I really hope these tests give you some more definitive answers. I was listening to a Jillian Michael’s podcast the other day about gluten, and it was fascinating. Lots of allergens came up in the discussion, including pet dander. I thought about you while listening to it; you might find it interesting too. Anyway I’m rooting for you and I loved seeing you in person.

    • I agree. We could have a Meghan and Madison show where we cook/bake and ramble so much that people get to the end and have no idea what it was about. Lol.

I’m always impressed with Jillian Michaels. I always thought she was so commercial but then something like hat podcast comes out. It sounds interesting! I’ll have to find time to check it out.

Someday I’d like to “actually” see you in person. Not just through facebook or a video πŸ™‚

  12. As someone who used to have terrible stomach/digestive problems that were undiagnosed, I’m sure you and your doctor will figure it out! But yeah, it is tough getting through it all when you still don’t know. And your dog is a cutie!
