Let’s Get it Pinning in Here

Let’s Get It Pinning in here…

And the base keep pinnin’ pinnin’, and pinnin’ pinnin’, and pinnin’ pinnin’, and pinnin’ pinnin’, and
pinnin’ pinnin’, and pinnin’ pinnin’, and pinnin’ pinnin’, and pinnin’ pinnin’, and…

Are you ready to get started with The Lean Green Bean’s next Pin It Party? Yah!!!!!

Are you now currently humming along to the Black Eyed Peas song? Yaaaahhhhh….. No.

Get your head out of the music and refocus, because right now it’s all about Pinterest. There’s no time for Fergie today.

Pin It Party

Everyone is welcome to participate and the rules are simple:

  • Round up 5 blog posts you’ve written that you would like to see on Pinterest.
  • Make sure there is a nice, pinnable image or photo included in each post.
  • Write a short post featuring the posts you chose- ie, put 5 nice images & links to the posts all in one place, along with a short description of each post.
  • On Thursday, publish your post, then visit The Bean and add your post to the linkup!

Below I have gathered my 5 posts that I would love to be pinned, and to further excite things, I have also included some more items of Pinterest “interest” (ha! 😉 ) towards the end that I think my fellow pinners may love as well.

Grain-Free Banana Scones

Grain-Free Banana Scones – This is my most recent recipe here on Eating 4 Balance. The scones are naturally sweetened with honey and bananas, and topped with a deliciously simple almond butter glaze (nut-free and vegan substitutions listed).

Basic Paleo Pancakes

Basic Paleo Pancakes– These are my fluffiest grain-free pancakes to date. Like most of my recipes, they are very allergy-friendly, and being made from neutral flours they would be wonderful with a variety of toppings.

Microwave Cinnamon Rolls (Paleo and Vegan)

Microwave Cinnamon Rolls– In case you are new to my blog, you should know that the only thing that rivals my passion for pancake recipes is my love for cinnamon rolls. This cinnamon roll recipe in particular is great because it can be made in just a few short minutes and has a serving size of two. It’s perfect for a quick morning breakfast.

Easy Apple Pancakes (Gluten-Free)

Easy Apple Cinnamon Pancakes – Like I said, I love pancakes. With a combination of apples, nut flour, yogurt and eggs these are a are a great hearty (and healthy) way to start your day.

Catching Fire: Recipe Round-Up

Catching Fire Recipe Round-Up – This may be one of my most time intensive posts ever (except for my 12 Days of Allergy-Friendly Christmases). In honor of the release of Catching Fire I went through the book, found all mentions of food, and then proceeded to match up a majority of them with recipes that I have found around the blog world. If you are a Hunger Games fan, you don’t want to miss this post. It would be a great resource for a party when Catching Fire is released on DVD!

Of course, a pinner is nothing without the amazing pinners that she/he follows. Below are just a couple of my favorite boards on Pinterest. They range from style to funnies to Disney stuff to gorgeous scenery… and then of course there are the food boards. Most recipe boards I follow are just for “pinspiration” but there are a few allergy-friendly ones in there as well.

I hope you’ve found some delicious recipes to pin and interesting new boards to follow! My pinterest account is here if you’d like an awesome daily slew of puppy chow recipes, obsessive Harry Potter memes, and a constant influx of allergy-friendly recipes.

If you have a Pinterest board that you think I’d like to follow (it can be yours of course!) let me know in the comments. I’m always looking for someone new. Pinterest is one addiction I’m not sure I will ever break 😉

Buzzing Around the Web

So I just woke up to 8 texts from my mom. She was at a business conference with my dad and getting bored so she decided to textbomb my phone… The first text that I missed was before 9:00PM. I’m pretty sure I feel asleep on my bed about 30 minutes before that though. The first thought that I had when I woke up was, “What happened?” Let me tell you what my conclusion is- Life happened.

friday-buzz-life

This is a real freaking job people. With real ups and downs. Real long hours. Real customers who are sometimes happy, and sometimes not. And those not-so-happy customers will make you want to quit and just cry, but you have to keep on swimming.

When I woke up tonight after my unexpected nap at around 11:00PM I promptly texted my mom back so that she would know I wasn’t a. ignoring her or b. dead (although let’s face it- all mothers automatically assume the worst and always go with b). Then I washed my face and brushed my teeth and hopped back in bed. Yep, no need to put on pajamas because my sweat pants and volleyball shirt came on as soon as I got back from work.

It’s now 6 minutes til 12:00AM so I am going to wrap this post up fast with a simple round-up of links that I found particularly interesting this week. You should check some of them out because I think you’ll like them too!

First category- food for obvious reasons. Here are some mouth-watering-good recipes that I stumbled upon this week in WIAW blogs as well as Pinterest and other random places:

Second category- food for thought posts. These are the posts from bloggers that really made me think, which in my eyes is always a major accomplishment.

Taylor Made It Paleo wrote a post this week with a new recipe for a Sweet Potato Breakfast Hash. In itself the recipe looks great, but not particuarly earth-shattering. What I found interesting though was her introduction where she confesses that she had a number people rudely point out to her that her macaroon picture had a blonde hair in it…. Really? Is that what people do now? Have they moved on from body shaming to food shaming now? Let’s spend our time more wisely people– like perhaps making Taylor’s macaroon recipe. It sounds like you had a bad day and good use some dessert to cheer you up.

Running With Spoon’s The Stigma of Healthy Living. I really like this post from Amanda because she points out the judgmental tendencies of bloggers and the effects that they can have on fellow bloggers- like feeling the need to not share everything we really ate for fear of being ridiculed or picked apart. Again, that’s not what this community is for! What I really appreciate is that Amanda pointed out these things without being judgmental herself. I feel like so many people have written posts on similar topics in the past few weeks, but have been quite hypocritical in the sense that while calling others out on being judgey, they too have been putting others down.

Third category- pinterest pins. Here are just a few pins from my boards this week that I thought were worth sharing.

Last but not least are some buzzfeed articles that I believe are either hilarious or thought-provoking. Most likely both. I swear, buzzfeed is one of my favorite websites these days. I can get lost for hours just browsing through their articles.

8 Foods We Eat in the U.S. That Are Banned in Other Countries– There really are some frightening ingredients in our food.

Now I’m off to bed for real this time! Tomorrow is Friday and this weekend I’m heading home to celebrate a few family birthdays (Happy Birthday Mom!). I’ll be sure to share lots of pictures of the festivities on the blog next week. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Pinterest Palooza Link-Up Parties

Howdy there. I’m in a super uppity mood today because I only have one more exam left and I’m scotch-free (is that the correct term? scotch? Hold on a second while I look it up…).

Oh, this is embarrassing. I guess it’s actually “scott-free”… Well, for your information, I am also free of scotch as well as free of all other illegal substances… 😉

Now that we have that out of the way, back to my regular blathering. As I sit here writing this it is Thursday afternoon and I am supposed to be studying for an MIS exam and packing. Both will get done, I promise, but I’m taking a wee little break.

Today I am participating in two fun link parties: Jessie Bear’s Together Tuesdays and The Lean Green Bean’s Pin It Party.

It is going to be one fantastic Pinterest Palooza! (The link in my description is for the post, and if you click on the picture that will take you to the pin!).

To start with, the Pin It Party where I feature 5 of my posts in a pinnable fashion:

pin-it-party

First is a recipe that I still have fond memories about. It comes all the way from October and is high fiber, gluten-free, vegan, high protein, sugar free, low sodium, corn-free. I give to you my Microwave Sandwich Bread.

2012-10-23 21.11.18

The second recipe that I have to share is also from last year where I was still eating human food (sort of 😉 ). You can also see from this post with my obsession of all things having to do with the microwave! How to Cook Acorn Squash in the Microwave.

2012-10-16 19.56.23

Then with the start of the new year I began my all-soup ways and shared this single-serving Kabocha Squash and Pea Soup recipe that still is my go-to most days of the week.

wiaw-kabocha-squash-pea-soup

You’ll bet your bottoms though that didn’t stop me from baking up a storm. My fourth pin from Eating 4 Balance is for one of the most popular posts on my blog, including Coconut Flour Banana Bread and Three Ingredient Nut Butter Cookies.

2013-02-12_15.43.08[1]

For my last pin I want to include a non-food post that I wrote a few weeks ago on the importance of sleep. In it I shared my Top Five Tips for getting a better night’s rest and a lot of people in the comments confessed to not getting enough ZZZ’s.

Moving on to Jessie’s link-up, I am going to share 5 recipes that I have found around the blog world and about melted in their delicious-looking wake. This one is going to be short, because SERIOUSLY, I have to get studying for that exam tomorrow morning. Did I mention that it was at 8:30 AM?

Pumpkin Poppers, because pumpkin never goes out of style season here in blogland.

Sadly you may have noticed that my posts this week have been lacking two things: recipes and Meghan’s Week in Review. Both will be coming this Monday in one heck of  a marvelous post, don’t you worry!

Speaking of worry, I think perhaps I’m starting to get those end-of-semester jitters. Not about the exams, but about the packing! Gosh is there so much to do. Aside from the actual packing portion, I have to vaccuum, clean my shelves and desk, de-loft my bed (that should be fun), and go through a 15 minute check out where I’m either approved, or I have to pay some fine if I something is missing. Yikes. Better get on that. Talk to you all later!

—————————————————————————————————————————————————–

What link-up parties have you participated in this week?

Have you always said scott-free or were you awesome like me and made up your own twist? 😉

Any tips on de-lofting a bunk bed?

What is your favorite pin (recipe or not) that you’ve pinned recently?

Nerdy Girl Survey

First off, I want to thank all of you for your awesome comments on Wednesday’s post. If you haven’t read them yet, go check it out now! There are some great thoughts there.

Second, next week I want to do a round-up of all the posts on this lovely blog world about not falling into that “trap.” So, if you wrote a post, or if you want to recommend someone else’s post, feel free to leave a link in the comments!

——————————————————————————————-

Alright, so if you all didn’t already think I was a nerd from my Excel reference the other day, this post will leave no doubt in your mind.

One of the blogs that I read, Will Study For Food, came up with this awesome survey post in the beginning of January that I just loved. Shoot, give me any survey and I will confess my undying love for it. And that’s the truth.

So, if you haven’t gotten tired of learning about me so far, here is another fun survey to take a look at!

NERDY GIRL SURVEY

1. What is your favorite protein?

Chicken. Or beef. Right now I guess I’d say beef pot roast. With some carrots and zucchini noodles. Yum.

wiaw-cold-soup

2. Pencil or pen?

friday-pencils

Most of the time pencil, especially for homework or notes. When I am writing a rough draft of something on paper though, I have to use pen. I’m not quite sure why, but my best reports start off in pen. Not pencil, and definitely not typewritten from the get-go.

Fun Fact: I have this permanent indentation on my right middle finger from gripping my writing utensils too hard. It used to be a lot bigger in elementary school, but it started to hurt so I have since practiced gripping not quite so hard.

3. Handwritten notes or laptop?

Handwritten all the way. I have a five-subject notebook and everything.

friday-notebook

4. What has been your favorite class so far?

Ethnic Studies hands down.

friday-ethinic-studies

5. If you could “re-do” any class from college, which one would you?

Probably my business class from last semester. It was really easy, and kind of fun, but in hindsight I didn’t learn very much. I probably should have looked more into what teacher I picked, but I was a freshman and didn’t have anyone to ask for recommendations.

friday-teacher

6. Where is your most productive study spot?

wpid-Bg-room2012-1.jpg

My blue mushroom chair. It’s also my most procrastinator spot, but we don’t need to get into that now, you guys already know that I have a tendency to put things off (especially when it comes to walking to my car on Fridays…).

7. How do you organize your day?

Simple. I don’t.

friday-lists

I do make tons of lists and plan out my day, but I rarely follow them. Really I just like making lists.

8. What is your least favorite class?

Can I pick none? Seriously, I love all of my classes. If I had to pick my least favorite though, it would have to be Statistics. Our graduate student is from another country and there is definitely a language/social barrier.

friday-language-barrier

9. What is the best time to study for you?

I do my best homework at night, but I do my best test studying for tests in the morning.

friday-studying

10. Do you have a dream student gadget?

This is a toughie. I wasn’t really sure, so I typed “dream student gadget” into Google and came up with this. Like I said before- I Love Lists!

This list in particular reminded of a gadget that I’d love to have: A new camera (so… if any of you out there happen to have an extra one lying around, or happen to work for a camera company… my arms are open graciously to thee).

Carrots N’ Cake mentioned awhile back (Jan. 24 I believe) that her favorite camera was one sale, so of course I had to check it out. Sounds pretty good if you ask me. A little “expensive” at $249.00 but I guess quality really does count people!

  • 12.1 effective megapixel, 1/1.73-inch high-sensitivity CMOS sensor
  • 3-inch TFT color LCD with wide viewing angle
  • DIGIC 5 image processor
  • Full 1080p HD video with stereo sound
  • 24mm wide-angle lens (5x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom and 20x combined zoom) with optical image stabilizer

Normally I would post some recipes that I’ve found throughout the week for a Friday Food Finds, but I’m just not feeling it today. Instead, I’m going to share some of the recent pins that I’ve pinned to my board on Pinterest. Can one ever say pin too much?

Haha. This pin is from a board I’ve created for all things Miami Heat. We’re finally upgrading my brother’s room from Power Rangers this summer 🙂
