Spill It: TV Shows

I’m so glad that you are liking my link love posts on Fridays! I would really like to make them a more consistent feature on Eating 4 Balance so that I can share all of the wonderful things that I find every week on the internet. I already have a bunch of funny videos to share for the next edition!

Now, as it’s Sunday, I’m linking up to Arman’s Spill It Sundays. This week’s theme is TV Shows!

Spill It Sundays

Required selfie:

What was your favorite TV series growing up?

Scooby Doo. Hands down. No question about it. From the prequel series called “A Pup Named Scooby Doo” to “Where Are You Scooby Doo?” to the movie spin-offs there isn’t one version that I’ve seen and not liked. Really, it’s not possible.

Scooby Doo

What is your current favorite TV series?

Arrow. I finally caught up with all of the episodes last night on Hulu and the CW. As of right now one of the minor (probably soon to be major) characters, Roy, just got injected with some funky stuff and is now supernaturally strong. And someone is walking around terrorizing the town in a scarecrow-like mask. What’s not to love?

In all things serious though, my favorite part is the back and forth flashbacks that show what Oliver’s life was like when he was stranded on the island. Often during a tv series you may wonder why a character is the way he is, and with these flashbacks you get just that. Maybe I’m just a nosey tv watcher, but I always want ALL of the details. I don’t like to be left hanging for long.

If you could guest star in ANY TV show, which would it be?

How long would this guest appearance be lasting? If it was just for one episode I would probably want to be in Rookie Blue, Bones, House, or a similar medical/police drama where I’m the featured case (and get the most air time 😉 ). If it was for a longer character arc… maybe Sherlock? I’m not very good at a British accent, but I would love to work with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman!

What genre of  television do you enjoy the most? (Reality, Action, Drama, Comedy)

I’m not really picky on what kind of television I watch. It just has to be good. For example, some reality tv series like American Idol, The Voice, or Wipeout are not so ridiculous that I can’t sit down and enjoy an episode occasionally when they’re on. I like comedies too, but they can’t have characters who are super embarrassing. Take The Office- that show is hilarious; however, watching Michael make a fool of himself made me want to curl up in a corner and die.

I guess I like a combination of action and drama. I’m all for cop shows, medical shows, superhero shows, lawyer shows, etc. Throw in some supernatural features and that’s even better (think- Star Trek, Buffy, Heroes, Continuum, ).

Scifi Shows

Which TV series do you think should NOT have been renewed after its first season yet had?

Any of those adult cartoons. I’m sorry (not really) but The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park are not something that I ever or will ever like to watch. Also, certain reality shows like Jersey Shore, The Hills, The Kardashians, Jon and Kate Plus Eight… Really, any show that ruined the lives of its stars. I like people. I don’t like people being exploited (or exploiting others).

Reality TV ecard

Which TV series do you think deserved to be renewed yet was not?

Lizzie McGuire? Phil of the Future? (I need to know what happened! Did Lizzie and Gordo stay together? What is Miranda doing now? Does Phil ever come back from the future?! This is important stuff people).

Aside from these childhood shows that ended way too soon and resulted in life long trust issues, some more recent shows that shouldn’t have been cancelled are Leverage, Surface, Heroes, Tru Calling, Dollhouse, Dead Like Me, Eureka, Life Unexpected, Kyle XY, Freaks and Geeks, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s not necessarily that I felt like all of those shows should have been renewed (okay, maybe it is), but I just didn’t appreciate the endings. They were either cliff hangers, or so unrealistic that I felt like they were thrown together in a hurry and totally ruined all that was good about the series.

Disney Shows

What is your favorite TV show theme song? (This one I added myself)

Do you mean other than Scooby Doo‘s? (Isn’t it just so… catchy? 🙂 )

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air springs to mind, as does The Big Bang Theory, Batman (POW!)), WildfireMASH, Buffy, Cheers, Rugrats, Pokemon/Digimon, Step by Step, Phineas and FerbBoy Meets World, The Addam’s Family (tell me you didn’t *snap* just upon hearing that name!), and I saved the best for last- The Greatest American Hero. You really need to listen to all of these, because they are all amazing songs and soon will be stuck in your head all day.

The Greatest American Hero

If you are currently undergoing some snow storms and sub-zero weather, stay safe my friends! And for everyone else, enjoy the rest of your weekend. I’ll see you on Monday (hopefully) with a giveaway 🙂

Answer any/all of the questions above!

How is the weather where you are?

What was the last thing you watched? (Online or on TV)

What I Want Wednesday

What I really want right now is for a fully charged phone…

Eh, so I may or may not have accidentally left my cellphone charger plugged into my computer at work today when I was reading The Moon and More during my lunch break.

And since I currently have 8% left on my battery I figured to be on the safe side I would turn it off for now.

That means that I don’t have any pictures right now. I actually have my full WIAW post written up… but no beautiful imagery to go along with it.

This will just serve as a placeholder until later tomorrow (Wednesday) when I can get my charger!

P.S. It just so happens that the planned title of my post fits in perfectly with this unfortunate mistake as well… So, what did I ACTUALLY want this Wednesday? Well, you’ll just have to wait to find out! 😉

10:00 PM and time to take a cue from these furry buddies. Ready to recharge! 😉

I finally got my charger! Edited to add my post:

Yo I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want

So tell me what you want, what you really, really want

I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha)

I wanna really, really, really wanna zigazig ah

If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends

(Gotta get with my friends)

Make it last forever, friendship never ends

If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give

(You’ve got to give)

Taking is too easy, but that’s the way it is

Now for those of you who literally cringed as you read those lyrics, my sincerest apologies. Really. I understand how just the thought of hearing this Spice Girl song again may be enough to make you bang your head against your desk (but please don’t bang your head against your desk, you still have this entire post to read! 😉 ).

As you can tell by that intro, I’m going to tell you what I really really want. No worries– not in line what the original lyrics had in mind AT ALL. What I really want is to share with you what I’ve been up to this past week. And as the second part of the lyrics suggest, “[I] have got to give” as well! So in reward for reading my recap, there is a surprise at the bottom! (Which I am sure most of you have now stopped reading to go see what it is… Okay, are you back now?)

Some may call this a mini photo dump, so I’ll keep the words to a minimum.

The past two weekends I’ve taken the long (3+ hour) trek home to go to two of my high school friends graduation parties. Here are the cute favors that I got at the one:

I totally want to have another graduation party after seeing all of the fun decorations that these girls had. The first that I went to held the party at her aunt’s. The tables were super colorful with polka dot balloons, and they had their in-ground pool open with a waterslide for the kids. The second party was Minnie Mouse-themed with a super cute cake! Pink everywhere. I was in heaven.

Whenever I come home for the weekend I usually arrive at the house around 10:00 or 11:00 to my family sprawled out on the couches and chairs of our living room. Fast asleep.

I can always count on my dog Lilly though to come running up to me and wag around like the little rodent she is (said in the most loving way possible!). Every time I have to set down all of my bags, sit down on the ground, and immediately she jumps up on my lap to give me a gazillion kisses. Then for the rest of the weekend she is basically attached to my hip.

Such a lap baby.

Usually I also get a nice welcome back from Scout. A little scratch of her back and she’s got her fill of me.

(So this post is much more word-heavy than I had planned, but I’m just going with it!)

Besides my family, friends and pets, I also really look forward to getting to lay out on our deck. As long as it’s warm I go out there a few times every weekend to eat my meals or read.

When I’m home I of course always cook at least one meal for my parents. Usually breakfast!

This time it was pancakes on both Saturday and Sunday morning. On Saturday I used a recipe that I found online from Civilized Caveman Cooking. It received a thumbs up from me for being super easy! My parents thought they were okay and said they’d eat them again.

These are the pancakes that I made on Sunday from a recipe of my own creation.

*Hint Hint* — *This may or may not be the surprise at the bottom!*

On my way back Sunday evenings I have been listening to not my radio (still messed up), but either my Pitch Perfect CD or audio books. I made it through the first four CDs of a Lord of the Rings Radio Dramatization (really good!).

Now I’m giving those a break to listen to Bossypants by Tina Fey.

My trips back usually involve some banana eating as well. This picture is for you Meghan. Is a traffic jam in the middle of the highway public enough to qualify for some #publicbanana goodness? (Check out Allie’s post for some more #publicbanana fun if you haven’t already. Totally jealous!).

Then when I get back to my apartment I run around putting everything away. It takes about 10 minutes and I do it before anything else (including making my supper) because otherwise it will never get done and I’ll still have full bags at the end of the week.

And what happens when a self-declared klutz runs around like a maniac with a hungry belly?

Yep. She cuts herself on who knows what.

But she doesn’t let that stop her. Hence the blood, making it look ten times worse than it actually was.

After I had put everything away I cleaned it up and put on a Scooby Doo Band-aid…. What? You don’t have a box of those in your cupboard? I also have neon bandages but I thought Scooby was more appropriate because I was going to be watching him later on Netflix.

So while I ate supper, bandaged up with Scooby, I also enjoyed watching Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated on my laptop. Quite the interesting series displaying the characters in High School. At least check out the first episode if you haven’t already!

Now that I have thoroughly exhausted all interesting photos on my phone, I think it’s time to fulfill my promise of a surprise. I mentioned above that I made pancakes over the weekend. One from this girl, but the second time I made the recipe all by myself. Stuffed with blueberries and drizzled with honey, these are the favorite of about the twenty Paleo pancakes that I have made my parents so far. They said that they were the “real deal.” (Not their exact words, but basically. I’m not sure any parents who would really say “real deal”).

Unbelievably Grain-Free Berry Pancakes

Grain/Gluten/Wheat-Free, Paleo/GAPS-Friendly, Nut/Dairy-Free Option

Makes two batches of three pancakes

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tbsp honey (optional)
  • 1 small banana
  • 1/4 cup yogurt (I used full-fat cow’s – Can use dairy-free kind too)
  • 1 tsp vinegar (I used apple cider vinegar)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup almond flour (or other nut/seed flour)
  • 3 tbsp coconut flour
  • dash of sea salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • frozen/fresh blueberries

  1. Preheat griddle to 350 degrees (or a pan to about medium heat). Coat with coconut oil, ghee, or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Put all of the wet ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth.
  3. Then add the dry ingredients and combine again.
  4. Using a 1/3 cup measuring spoon scoop portion out the batter onto your griddle in medium-sized circles, spreading with the back of the measuring cup if too small.
  5. Cook for approximately 3 minutes, then place a few (5 or so) blueberries on each pancake. Cook for another minute until the side facing up is bubbly. Flip and cook for approximately four more minutes. Repeat with remaining batter and serve!

Now go whip up some pancakes! (maybe for your Dad this coming Sunday??)

Thank you for standing by this morning when I had my technical difficulties with this post!

Recipe shared at Real Food Forager.

Have you ever had any setbacks when getting a post ready for your blog?

What do you want this Wednesday? And what are you going to do to make it happen?! 🙂

Edited to add: I’m also going to link this post up with Meghan at Clean Eats Fast Feets for her Week in Review. I forgot to do this when I first published and Meghan’s post bright and early this Monday morning reminded me… 🙂

Take a Trip in the Wayback Time Machine (WIAW)

I feel like I say this every week, but I seriously have a ton of homework due tomorrow- a Physics report on the reasonableness of Yoda in Star Wars Episode V (don’t even get me started…) as well as my part of a large business report having to do with that survey that some of you took awhile back.

But I’m never one to miss a good party, so I’ve decided to pop in real quick and share with you something a little cooky, but totally fun. It’s inspired in part by Carrots N Cake’s post earlier this week, as well as my previous nostalgia post that I did way back in September during my third week of college. Boy time flies!

Here are my top 9 things that I miss from the 90’s:

HIT Clips

These things were the bomb. They saved me from excruciating bus rides with kids I was too scared to look at let alone talk to. I still have them stuffed away in a drawer at home. “What was I listening to?” you may ask. The classic- Pink, Faith Hill, NSync, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Madonna, SClub7 and Destiny’s Child.

Boy Meets World

I looked forward to watching the re-runs of this show every single night. 8:00-8:30. No questions asked. I’ve seen every single episode and I still aspire to one day be like Corey and Topanga. Not ashamed! (P.S. Who’s excited for Girl Meets World?)

Power Rangers

Did any girls watch this show? Maybe it was just me, but I was addicted to the hidden identities and crime-fighting ways of these masked superheroes. I watched Power Rangers with my brother whenever we got picked up by my grandmother after school and stayed at her house. Of course my favorite was the pink ranger, and I always was madly in love with the guy dressed in red.

Again, I’m not sure if this was a widespread thing in female circles, but my friends and I had stacks of Pokemon cards that we used to swap during recess until they were banned. I didn’t really pay attention to the HP of the Pokemon, I just wanted the cute and shiny (holographic) ones.

Scooby Doo Macaroni and Cheese

I’ve professed my love for Scooby Doo countless times already, but this may yet be my favorite form of the iconic puppy dog. I swear, the special-shaped macaroni and cheese just tasted so much better! Maybe it’s just me and my slight aversion to cheese at times, but seriously, this stuff was addicting.

Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?

Having a mom who was a teacher certainly had its advantages. One was that she always had the best games to play on her computers at school. I remember on the weekends when she’d have to go to school to prepare lesson plans and make copies she’d ask if I wanted to come. Uh… Yes! Especially if it meant that I got to play Where in the World is Carmen San Diego.

Bubble Tape

The gum of my childhood. For those of you who have sat in the backseat of a car recently, remember those little pouches where you can store all kinds of junk good stuff? Well the pockets on the seats of my parents cars were always stuffed with books, pens, pencils, Burger King toys, and this stuff- Bubble Tape. I just love blowing bubbles. Plus, it helps that it was pink.

Rice Krispie Treats Cereal

This cereal does not show up in may grocery stores these days. I still think it is pure genius. Basically the creators of Rice Krispie Treats Cereal just made Rice Krispie Treats in a smaller form and packaged it inside cereal boxes for kids to enjoy for breakfast. I think parents soon caught on though that their children didn’t need even MORE sugar.

Sour Cream and Onion Cheez-Its

My favorite flavor of chip met my favorite type of cracker. Instant success if you ask me. I honestly don’t know why they stopped making this flavor because it was very very good.

Now it’s time for me to go to bed and get up nice and early tomorrow morning to finish some of that homework! I’m still hoping to do my usual post this Friday, so if all works out, a new recipe should be up soon.

Happy WIAW. After you leave a comment with YOUR favorite thing from the 90’s, head on over to Jenn at Peas and Crayons and check out some of the other awesome bloggers!

Third Weekend on Campus (Nostalgia!)

Thanks for all of your awesome comments on my Labor Day WIAW!

Happy Friday everyone! (Written on Friday Night, posted on Saturday morning… WHOOPS.)

And what a Happy Friday it is! Today I only had one class (Intro to Business… also my shortest!), it isn’t too hot (although it just started raining now… fine with me!) and I am geared up and ready for the weekend.

I’m not going home this weekend because: 1. It isn’t extended like with Labor Day. 2. I’m trying to go home only every other week. Space is good.

This morning I woke up bright and early at 6:00 am.

Read some blogs.

Congratulations Kath!

And made myself a ginormous bowl of quinoa porridge!

Directions to come later!

Then I read some articles for my class today, ate lunch, and then headed out to talk with my professor before class.

Tonight I don’t have much planned except going to eat with one of my friends.
Tomorrow and Sunday is going to be jam-packed with an Arts Festival, homework, homework, homework, homework (4 classes worth) and episode 5 of Sherlock on Sunday night.

As I mentioned before, I read a lot of blogs this morning, and one was somewhat new-ish to me. I’ve read it before, but not on a daily basis. It was Beyond-Bananas. Such a great name. And looking through her past posts like the good little bloggity-stalker I am, I happened upon this awesome idea: Childhood Food Favorites.

Here is my version:

When I Was A Child…

1. I loved Scooby Doo.

Source: google.ie via Madison on Pinterest

I may or may not have had a Scooby Doo Birthday Party that you can read about on my old blog (???).

2. Pokemon was awesome.

Add to that Power Rangers, Digimon, Yugioh and Dragon Ball Z and you have basically got my Saturday mornings.

For a little girly flair, I also watched…

3. My favorite combo was Keebler and the Olsen Twins.

Let me explain before you start going off on some rampant/crazy notions. One of my favorite treats as a youngster were the Keebler Fudge Sticks Peanut Butter Cookies.

And then I would lounge on the floor, rereading The New Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley: The Case of the Cheerleading Camp Mystery. Most of the time I actually read this book by the door, so if anyone were to come in I could quickly hide the Keebler cookies.

I was a sneaky one.

4. Wild Watermelon Pop-Tarts

Do you remember these? Maybe not because they discontinued them, but they were the best! Like, even better than Frosted Wild Berry.

I’m serious.

5. Furbies may have been the best/worst thing ever created.

This post has got me thinking of all my favorite childhood food that I will never be able to eat again! I’m thinking a WISH-LIST food page is in order. I’ll make a list of my old favorites, and then slowly overtime I will recreate them to be healthier and allergy-free. WHAT-DO-YOU-THINK?

Tell me at least one of your favorites: childhood favorite food, tv show and toy.

What are your plans for the weekend?
