Food for the…

I was very tempted not to post today but since Wednesday was the only day that I blogged so far this week I decided I had better put something up. Also, I kind of already had this all planned out ahead of time (I love when that happens!) so it wouldn’t take as long as usual. For the past week I’ve been carrying around a notebook with me and when I get the rare free moment before class I’ll jot down some blog posts ideas or notes. For Wednesday’s I actually had the entire intro written out by hand before typing it up. I would really recommend this for those, like me, who get spurts of inspiration on the go, promise yourself that you won’t forget your aha moment, and then when it comes down to finally write… nothing but blank space and musical crickets in that noggin of yours up there.

Before I get into all of the articles, links, pictures, etc. that I want to share, I suppose that I should probably explain briefly why I didn’t want to post today. Quite simply I just don’t feel well. Even though I haven’t mentioned it for awhile, my stomach and allergies are still battling with me full-force. Not a day goes by where I can go without stomach pain (or a number of other problems), not want to scream over my boring bowl of vegetables and meat, or feel like things will never get better.

I’ve been thinking lately about what I would do if we really did undergo a zombie apocalypse like so many have been gunning for. Most likely my companions would abandon me after a day or two of not being able to keep up. My reasoning behind this statement is  that my body would be rejecting the canned/boxed foods that I would be forced to eat and I would be no help.

“Give me the box of funfetti cake mix, a bottle of water and a fork, and let me die in blissful stomach-wrenching indulgence!”

You see, I had to be practical here. When I eat “normal” food I am literally incapacitated to the point where I cannot function at even 50% so the most likely scenario is that those who I was trying to escape the grips of zombies with would have to leave me so that they had a chance of survival. But if I had to die, I would want to at least die eating cake batter with a fork straight from the box.

We’ve got to think of all of the possibilities here folks. I would also take a jar of nut butter if deemed necessary.

Questions for you:

What is your weekly Food for the… Mind, Belly, Eyes, and Soul?

What are you thoughts on some of these articles? A couple of them are pretty thought-provoking and controversial. I have mixed feelings on a few and would love to hear your input!

What food would you want to be left behind with in the event of a zombie apocalypse? (Yep… if you skipped the first part of this post you missed a doozy!)

  1. Dude, totally with you on what to do if the zombie apocalypse happens. I’d be too terrified to do anything, so pass the box and the spoon and we’ll go out together! I’d also want to throw in a burger with sweet potato fries and a big bowl of froyo with every chocolate candy and cookie topping available.
    Nothing but the best 😉

  2. Aw thanks for the shoutout girl! I can’t imagine what you’re going through on a daily basis with those stomach problems. I consider myself very lucky not to have allergies because I’d be in big trouble if I was finding things to eat. I don’t know how I’d survive without “normal” foods but I guess it’s something you learn to deal with when it’s a matter of health! I hope things eventually start to turn around for you!

  3. Argh Madison. You’re such a generous and caring person (evident in the way your always doing things for others, chef-ing for your family) yet have all these set backs! I really hope a solution pops up sooner than later- but its admirable how your handling all of it! Props buddy!

thanks for the shout out and LOL at the puppy chow… I didn’t even know what puppy chow WAS until I saw those million and one pins!

  4. So sorry to hear that your stomach has really been acting up this week. I know you are working hard and doing everything you can to get the right mix in your diet, and I hope you feel better soon. Thank you so much for the shootout! I hope that you have a great weekend!

  5. Awwwr girl, I’m so sorry to hear that you haven’t been feeling too well 😦 I find it annoying enough to have to deal with the occasional stomach woes, so I can’t even imagine what you must be going through. Big hugs.

And thanks for including me in a list of such great links! We share a pretty similar taste in reading material 🙂

  6. I do the same thing with blog ideas, except on my phone’s note app. If I used a notebook I’d probably lose it in a day or so. 😛

Ooh, I’d have to go with dark chocolate since I seriously can’t go a day without it!

Thanks for sharing all the great links, looks like I’ve got quite a bit of blog reading to do.

  7. This is a great post! I haven’t been feeling well myself in the food department. I seem to be giving up and eating all the things that bother me and I simply don’t care! Which is bad but I know I can get out of it… food to be left behind I would have to say Ghirardelli’s midnight reverie ice cream sundae… I hope that counts 😦

  8. You are just a big old sweetheart and I love you. Have I told you that lately? If not, my bad because it’s true.
I was starting to wonder about you when you popped on over to my place and said Hello and then went and linked up my quiche. You rock. I figure school is probably kicking you little keister. I assume it’s little based on your pictures and dietary restrictions. Well unless chicken goes right to the rear. 🙂
I’ve been jotting down random notes and phrases throughout the day now too. In fact, I wrote almost my entire WIAW post (Where has all the funny gone?) in a morning meeting at the office. I think they thought I was taking notes. Oops. Don’t tell. It was a new product demo, which is years away from happening, so I’m not a total delinquent.

I’m really sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling great lately. I often think about you and hope for the best. I can only imagine how hard and tiresome it must be. I really, truly hope you get some answers soon. My fingers, toes, and pretty much anything and everything I can cross, are crossed for you.

  9. Snap! Stomach issues can really make you feel unwell and lethargic – for me anyway. I had to take the day off yesterday and just watched what I ate all day. It can be boring, especially when you have just batched cooked Chilli and scones (not to eat together of course).

Hope things look up for you soon Madison 😀

  10. Stomach and digestion issues are no fun at all. Earlier in the year I gave up wheat and legumes and later discovered Quinoa was an issue for me too and my digestion has improved a lot since giving up those things but I still find new things all the time that don’t agree with me, like Dates so I feel your pain :/

Loving all of these links I’ve read some but not all of them, I’m catching up on my blog reading now so plan to check some of these out too, thanks for sharing ❤

  11. I’ve always loved the idea of food for other things besides the belly 😀 I totally feel you on the zombie apocalypse thing. Count me in, and I’ll bring some jars of nut butter for those who are left behind along with us!

  12. Can I just be left with 20 different bowls of puppy chow?! Omg, WHY did you link me to that!? Lucky Charms puppy chow?! I’m dying…seriously dying! 😯 And I couldn’t help but see the trailer for the new Tangled movie when I was checking out the Maleficient (eh, not a big Angelina fan) one…how did I not know they were making a sequel?! Omg, can’t wait for that! Loved the posts from Kaila! “If we start monitoring every little thing that goes into our bodies, soon enough everything will seem to warrant restriction and stringent guidelines on how much or how little we should eat of it.” <- How true is this?! And I loved her perspective on accepting your body on the outside, but also focussing on the health of the inside… "What’s the point in accepting your body if you don’t have the health to go with it?" Food for thought indeed!

Also, that dance! Hahaha! Which reminds me that I need to add to my bucket list "Learn the Thriller dance!" 😉

  13. Ha-ha, I’m with you on the nut butter and cake batter! But I’d think I’d save time and room by grabbing a jar of my cake batter almond butter! 😉 I love your posts with link to other posts! Thanks for all the effort you put into these! 🙂

  14. I have no large intestine. I cannot process any foods/vitamins. I cannot tolerate wheat, dairy, gluten, sugar, soy, nuts & fruit. I feel you on your stomach pain and ailments!!!!!!!! You need to see a GI doctor if you haven’t already. I am sure you’ve done everything and feel helpless. If you want/need to talk, I am always here for you! 🙂

  15. I love the theme for this post! Great idea!

I’m so, so sorry to hear you aren’t doing well. I often think about you and your situation and wonder how you’re doing, but gosh, I’m so sorry to hear it isn’t great. I know that you’ve been to many doctors and had many tests, but is there anything new that you’ve learned?
I wish there was some way I could help! You’re in my thoughts and prayers…I hope that you’ll get some answers or at the very least find relief of that pain soon.
