Animal Crackers in my Soup (WIAW and WIR)

Even though it’s not Friday, I have a confession to make:

I almost didn’t post today.

*Gasp* Shocker, right?! I’m not sure that I’ve missed a Wednesday since I’ve started this blog. And as you will be able to tell from my Week in Review portion of today’s post, I’ve been busy up the wazoo.


So, let’s review (in bullet form of course), shall we? πŸ™‚

  • Last week I published two posts on my usual Wednesday and Friday.
  • I also shared two recipes last week- one for soup, and the other for blueberry muffins. Both grain-free and oh-so-yummy.



  • Over the weekend I made this lovely pear crisp for my family (recipe will be up soon!):


  • I watched The Perks of Being a Wallflower. What else can I say except that I loved it and want to watch it again soon?! It was a great classic coming of age story, but had many more modern elements which I really liked. The three main characters were fantastic.
  • Also in the past few days I’ve gotten two calls, both about summer internships. One I didn’t get, but the other I did (remember my WIAW trip post for this one?). Still unsure of what to do, but I have until Friday to decide!
  • This week I have two exams, and three papers due, hence the confession above. *Fingers crossed for all five*

Now, the WIAW portion will be a little shorter than normal today, but I couldn’t skip it entirely because I didn’t want to miss out on the last week of GREEN!

Anybody remember this song from when they were younger?

I honestly never watched the movie, but it seemed like everyΒ commercialΒ break on TV had an advertisement with Shirley Temple singing this song. Last week I randomly started singing it and I thought that it would be the perfect title for a blog post!

Just exchange the crackers with critters and you’re good to go πŸ˜‰

Kabocha Squash and Pea Soup

Grain/Gluten/Wheat-Free, Egg and Dairy-Free, Nut-Free, GAPS/Paleo-Friendly

1 serving


  • 1/2-1 cup kaboca squash (cooked using this method)
  • 1 cup cooked chicken
  • 1/2-1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cup chicken broth (you could also use water but it wouldn’t be as flavorful)
  • sea salt if desired


  1. Put all of the ingredients into a pot and heat on high until boiling.
  2. Once boiling reduce to low, cover with a lid, and simmer for 25-30 minutes.
  3. Let cool for at least ten minutes, sprinkle with sea salt if desired and enjoy!

  1. I LOVE PERKS. Yes, that was a statement deserving of capitals. Ezra Miller was so amazing. And Logan Lermon. And Emma Watson – they were all so good! Your soup looks good but I have to admit I don’t do peas! haha

    • I totally approve of the all caps πŸ™‚ They were all amazing!

      And I think you’ll have to give peas another try. Up until this year I thought I hated them… Not even close πŸ˜‰

    That movie was absolutely AMAZING! Kinda makes me want to read the book…you know they are always better!

      Sadly I don’t have time to read any of the books right now, because usually it’s a rule for me to read the book before I watch the movie. Oh well, this summer I guess!

      Acorn and kabocha are currently my favorite two squashes. For some reason I can’t even stand the sight of butternut right now. Haha. It kind of wore out its welcome.

  4. Yep, still cold, lots of snow, icy roads, car crashes, etc. It’s so hard to stay warm these days.
    Last weekend I made a big pot of soy bean sprout soup. So good! But after eating it for three days straight I need something new. πŸ˜‰

    • I hope you all don’t have any snow right now! It’s still pretty cold over here, but supposedly it’s supposed to be getting warmer soon.

  5. Pear crisp…yum. πŸ™‚ I read Perks about a year ago and loved it but I still have to see the movie! I don’t know why I’ve been putting it off. Glad to know it’s good.

    • It was the perfect way to use up all of the pears that have been sitting in our cold garage for forever! πŸ™‚ Next time a school fundraiser comes along I’m going to have to remind my mom that my family are more of apple-lovers. Haha.

  6. I rented Perks a couple weekends ago and liked it too. It had been ages since I read the book so I barely remembered what was gonna happen which was nice. And the pear crisp you made looks delicious!

  7. Perks of being a wallflower is my fav recent movie πŸ™‚ love all the main characters! My week has been pretty chill…some work, some pt, some hockey and some hanging out…doesn’t get much better! Just hoping i don’t get sick…body is starting to fight something so drinking lots of fluids and going to bed early!

    • Same here. All of the main characters were great. I would have loved to be their friends in high school… Except for the whole brownie incident. Lol.

      Hope your pt is going well and that you don’t get too sick. Early to bed is definitely in order for me too right now πŸ™‚

  8. I really want to see Perks of a Wallflower. I also want to read the book. I’ve only heard good things about it.
    I’m loving soups at the moment – it’s just so cold and I find there’s nothing more comforting than a big bowl of hearty soup. Really into sweet potato soups.
    Hope the studying goes well!

    • I’ve heard that both the book and movie are great.

      Hopefully since this comment it’s warmed up near you a little πŸ˜€ Sweet potato soup sounds fantastic.

  9. I have not yet seen The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but I have heard it is an excellent movie. Those muffins look delicious; I will have to try the recipe some day! Good luck with your exams and papers; I hope they go well! I am on spring break from my community college classes this week, so that has been nice so far.
